SME exporters to receive US dollars through BML gateway and pay subscriptions from 1 November
President Muizzu announced that from 1 November, small Maldivian businesses selling abroad can receive US dollars through a Bank of Maldives gateway, and can pay for subscriptions without difficulty.
From 1 November, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Maldives that sell goods and services in international markets will be able to receive payment in US dollars through a Bank of Maldives (BML) gateway, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced last night in his speech at the opening of Maldives Expo 2026.
The President said it will be a major step forward for Maldivian small businesses to be able to receive dollars from anywhere in the world.
He said Maldivian producers and small businesses selling goods and services in international markets will be able to receive US dollars from any country, from 1 November through the BML gateway. The dollars received can be used without difficulty, through cards and remittances, to buy goods and services from outside the Maldives.
The President said payments for subscriptions and similar services that businesses use will also be possible without difficulty from the same date. He said the changes will remove obstacles for SMEs and raise their income and profit.
